As a software engineering intern on Microsoft's Worldwide Learning team, I designed, built, and shipped a learner-engagement feature for the company's massive open online courses (MOOCs): a Kendo UI plugin that lets learners highlight and annotate video and text directly inside a course.
I drove the work end-to-end — from user interviews and design through a fully documented, well-tested implementation with collaborative annotation storage — and delivered it through agile sprints, reviewing and demoing the final solution to senior engineers and management.
Learners had no way to mark up course video and text as they studied. I designed and built a Kendo UI plugin that brings highlighting directly into the MOOC player, then demoed it to the team — making courses more interactive and lifting learner engagement.
Designed and implemented global and local databases so annotations could be both personal and shared, letting learners build on each other's highlights and notes to enrich the collective course experience.
Ran user interviews throughout development and fed the findings back into the design each sprint, refining usability so the feature matched how learners actually study.
